Questions & Answers
Frances is an accomplished horticulturalist who has been growing, planting and preparing planting plans for most of her adult life and has a `passion for plants`. She established and operated her own family run nursery for many years. Trevor is equally obsessed with the magic of gardening. When they lived in Florida for a few years from 2013 to 2015, they founded a Garden Club – with today well over a hundred members – and planted a series of small Butterfly Gardens using native plants that now covers more than ½ acre.
In our world, the plants are the stars. With many years of plant knowledge behind us, we know what works and so we help you with layouts, plant selection, sourcing, planting and advice on aftercare.
We need to find out what you want so this will involve an initial visit on-site where we can discuss things with you and understand the `lie of the land`. This usually takes around an hour and a half to two hours for which we charge a fixed fee of £80.
We use a checklist to establish the physical aspects of the site and what it is that you are trying to achieve. We will take approximate measurements of the garden area, the plantings you are looking to retain and the areas where you want change. We will write a brief summary of the results of our visit and discussions and let you have that together with our recommendations.
Once we have established what it is that you want, we will then personally select and source the plant material and actually carry out the planting process. It may be that some soil improvement will be required prior to planting and very often new areas will require to be mulched. We can also do this but more often than not, it is more cost effective for you just to have a gardener to do these jobs.
We will advise you about how best to care for your new plants and provide you with notes for upkeep (pruning, feeding etc) We always like to check up on our work and will revisit from time to time to make sure that all is well and address any issues arising from our work.
